Our Services

The gallery’s guiding principle is to partner with clients to make well-informed decisions. Our services are tailored specifically to each client’s needs, to provide ongoing support or to help them build, donate, or divest of important collections. The following is a summary of the service and advice we can provide, and is by no means exhaustive.

Appraisal

A good decision to purchase, donate, or sell a work of art begins with a price opinion or appraisal. We offer price opinions for works contemplated for sale and a formal appraisal process for specific valuations.

The gallery is a member of the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) which is the leading art industry association in America and its owner Andrew Schoelkopf served as President of the ADAA. The gallery offers our clients access to the ADAA Art Appraisal Service which can execute formal appraisals for tax purposes, including gift tax and charitable donation appraisals. Information regarding this service can be found online at the ADAA’s appraisal pages.

  • Sale

The gallery purchases works of art and is retained to bring important works  to the market. The focus of the gallery is on American art created between 1900 and 1950. When we represent the seller of a work of art, it usually takes the form of a consignment for sale in which the work of art is consigned to the gallery.

If you are considering the sale of a work of art or a collection of American art, inquire directly to Alana Ricca by email at alana@schoelkopfgallery.com or by telephone at (212) 879-8815.

  • Purchase

The gallery carries a significant inventory of works of art that shifts frequently. We invite you to browse our inventory online, share a list of the artists and movements that are of  interest to you and to contact us with questions. With the help of the leading scholars in the field, we offer articles on particular artworks, movements, and issues of conservation and framing. For each artist the gallery focuses on, we also have three-part biographies which summarize their early life, career, and legacy. If you are interested in the work of a certain artist, genre, region or style, email Alana Ricca at alana@schoelkopfgallery.com.

  • Art Advisory Services

For a small number of our most active clients, the gallery offers a full curatorial and art advisory service for which a potential buyer will retain the gallery staff to curate their collections, to work with scholars to prepare a collection catalogue, or to provide any other advice and information they might require.

These services are an extension of our mission, which focuses on education and collaboration. In a rapidly changing world, our clients often find they benefit from a partner who can quickly compile and synthesize information regarding public and private transactions and how scholarship and the market are evolving.

We look forward to speaking with you to discuss how we can  be of service to you.
