After the Harvest was painted in 1941 or early 1942, in advance of its inclusion in Halpert’s fall group show. The work employs gouache and tempera along with watercolor. Lewandowski’s application of watercolor alongside these opaque media adds to the richness of tone, while retaining the brightness of watercolor. The artist worked in oil as well, but his watercolors were often exhibited alongside oils, owing to the strength of Lewandowski’s handling of the medium.
The present work is featured in Menconi + Schoelkopf’s 2015 fall catalogue.
